Custom Fabricated Nitrile (Buna-N) Gaskets & Seals
Since 1961, CGR Products has transformed raw Nitrile (NBR) sheet and roll stock into precision-engineered gaskets, seals, and custom components. Utilizing advanced die cutting, rotary conversion, and waterjet technologies across our multiple US facilities, we deliver custom Buna-N components that meet rigid industrial tolerances for oil, fuel, and chemical resistance.
Nitrile is a highly versatile rubber. It is used in countless applications and products, from marine fuel systems to small engine carburetors. Buna-N is currently one of the most widely used elastomers in the manufacture of seals.
Features and Benefits
Among nitrile rubber’s strongest characteristics are its chemical resistance. It has excellent resistance to:
- Water
- Alcohols
- Synthetic oils
- Solvents
- Silicone greases
- Hydraulic fluids
- Propane
- Butane
- A wide range of fuels, from aromatic and non-aromatic petroleum to aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbon jet fuels
Aside from its array of chemical resistances, Nitrile has other ideal physical characteristics that contribute to its versatility and popularity. Buna-N can operate temperatures as cold as –40ºF and withstand temporary dips as low as –70ºF, to as hot as between 210 to 250ºF, withstanding temporary increases of over 250ºF.
This material also has Shore A hardness rating from 40 to 90, an excellently low compression set value, high tensile strength ranging from 200 to 3,500 PSI, and elongation ratings of between 300 and 650%.
Adhesive Lamination Integration:
Nitrile is notoriously tricky to bond because of its oil content. As a 3M Preferred Converter, CGR Products specializes in pairing Nitrile substrates with high-performance acrylic and rubber pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs). We utilize specialized surface-priming and heat lamination techniques to ensure a bond that resists exposure and environmental degradation.
Please view the tables below for more material information.
| Durometer | Tensile Strength | Elongation | Temperature Range | Color | Finish | Available Thicknesses |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50/60/70 | 725 PSI | 300% | -22°F to +212°F | Black | Smooth | 1/16″ – 1/2″ |
Nitrile White Rubber (FDA-Approved)
| Durometer | Tensile Strength | Elongation | Temperature Range | Color | Finish | Available Thicknesses |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 60 | 700 PSI | 300% | -22°F to +176°F | Non-marking White | Smooth | 1/16″ – 1/2″ |
Optimal for Automotive and Other Oil-Resistant Die Cut Gasket Applications
These traits and physical properties make nitrile an optimal choice for high stress and oil-resistant applications, including:
- Automotive
- Aircraft engines
- Fuel systems
- Marine
- Military and Defense
Due in large part to Buna-N’s high petroleum-based oil resistance, nitrile based seals, and connectors perform excellent in oil and gas industry applications, such as in refineries and on drilling platforms.
