CGR Products provides custom material slitting, splitting (skiving), and roll converting services for non-metallic materials, gasketing, and industrial tapes. Utilizing high-precision baloney slitting and continuous loop skiving technology, CGR converts master rolls and blocks into custom-width tapes, narrow strips, and precision-thickness sheets.

Slitting & Splitting Capabilities

  • Baloney Slitting (Displacement Slitting): Automatically slits master rolls up to 60 inches wide down to custom widths as narrow as 0.25 inches without unwinding or rewinding the material. Continuous blade sharpening ensures clean, burr-free edges.

  • Sponge Rubber & Foam Splitting (Skiving): Utilizing a Fecken-Kirfel Loop Skiver, CGR splits flexible foam and sponge rubber blocks up to 10 inches thick down to 0.062 inches thick (with RMA tolerances) in continuous lengths from 25 to 250 feet.

  • Foam Tape Stripping: Automated indexing slitter for converting pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) backed foams, tapes, and rubber strips into finished rolls.

What is the difference between slitting and splitting in material converting?

Slitting cuts a wide roll or sheet into narrower widths along its length (reducing width). Splitting (or skiving) cuts a thick block or roll across its horizontal plane to reduce its total thickness.

What is baloney slitting?

Baloney slitting (displacement slitting) uses a circular rotating knife that cuts straight into a master roll of material mounted on a central mandrel, slitting the material to exact width without needing to unwind and rewind the roll.

Does CGR Products convert customer-supplied materials?

Yes. CGR Products offers complete converting services using either CGR’s extensive stocked inventory or customer-supplied materials via toll converting.

 

Foam Tape Stripping

CGR uses fully automated slitters to cut a variety of materials into finished rolls, including foam tapes — with or without adhesives. In addition, operations involving splitting and slitting ensure that every cut meets optimal accuracy and consistency. Our equipment also uses automated indexing and continuous blade sharpening, which ensures that cuts are clean and performed with optimal accuracy and consistency.
