Butyl Sheet Rubber, also known as Isobutylene-isoprene or IIR, offers airtight performance, particularly low gas permeability, and exceptional resistance to weathering, chemicals, ozone, and more.
This high quality rubber sheet material performs well as an insulator, in addition to providing high performance shock and vibration damping.
The benefits of butyl are broad, making it a particularly useful material for an abundance of industrial applications. Beyond its durability to tearing, butyl also offers excellent resistance to:
- Paint or ink dryers
- Ester-based hydraulics
A vulcanized and biocompatible rubber, butyl sheet also performs well with saturated or inorganic salt solutions. It is not ideal for use with mineral or petroleum based oils or fluids. Due to its ideal insulation properties, it is an excellent choice for high-performance electrical and wiring demands.

Butyl sheet rubber’s strength, flexibility, low gas permeability, and airtight performance make it ideal for inner tubes and other high pressure or vacuum sealed applications.
In addition to specialty gaskets and precision cut components, butyl sheet rubber is found in a wide array of specific industrial applications, including:
- Rubber roof sealants and repair
- Shock mounts
- Tubeless tire liners
- Bottle stoppers
- Pharmaceutical packaging and bottles
- Sealants and adhesives
- Butyl O-rings
- Pond and tank liners and seals
- Industrial liners
- Construction and mechanical systems
- Speaker surrounds
- Industrial hoses and connections
